For those of you who are great moms, those of us who plan to be great
moms and those who have great moms......
REAL MOTHERS
Real Mothers don ' t eat quiche; they don ' t have time to make it.
Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils are probably in the sandbox.
Real Mothers often have sticky floors, filthy ovens and happy kids.
Real Mothers know that dried play dough does'nt come out of shag carpets.
Real Mothers don't want to know what the vacuum just sucked up.
Real Mothers sometimes ask ' why me? ' and get their answer when a little
voice says, ' because I love you best. '
Real Mothers know that a child's growth is not measured by height or years
or grade...It is marked by the progression of Mama to Mom to Mother...
The Images of Mother
4 YEARS OF AGE
My Mommy can do anything!
8 YEARS OF AGE
My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 YEARS OF AGE
My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
14 YEARS OF AGE
Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.
16 YEARS OF AGE
Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
18 YEARS OF AGE
That old woman? She's way out of date!
25 YEARS OF AGE
Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 YEARS OF AGE
Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
45 YEARS OF AGE
Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 YEARS OF AGE
Wish I could talk it over with Mom.
The beauty of a woman Is not in the clothes she wears,
The figure that she carries, Or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart, the place here love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
The passion that she shows,
And the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows!

Irish joke
Two men were sitting next to each other at Murphy's Pub. After awhile, one
guy looks at the other and says, 'I can't help but think, from listening to
you, that you're from Ireland .'
The other guy responds proudly, 'Yes, that I am!'
The first guy says, 'So am I! And where about
from Ireland might you be?'
The other guy answers, 'I'm from Dublin , I am.'
The first guy responds, 'So am I!'
'Mother Mary and begora. And what street did you live on in Dublin ?'
The other guy says, 'A lovely little area it was. I lived on McCleary
Street in the old central part of town.'
The first guy says, 'Faith and it's a small world. So did I! So did I! And
to what school would you have been going?'
The other guy answers, 'Well now, I went to St. Mary's, of course.'
The first guy gets really excited and says, 'And so did I. Tell me, what
year did you graduate?'
The other guy answers, 'Well, now, let's see. I graduated in 1964.'
The first guy exclaims, 'The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us! I can
hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the same bar tonight. Can you
believe it, I graduated from St. Mary's in 1964 my own self!'
About this time, Vicky walks into the bar, sits down and orders a beer.
Brian, the bartender, walks over to Vicky, shaking his head and mutters,
'It's going to be a long night tonight.'
Vicky asks, 'Why do you say that, Brian?'
'The Murphy twins are drunk again.'

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRR

Name: African Penguin
ORDER - SPHENISCIFORMES
FAMILY - SPHENISCIDAE
GENUS, SPECIES: African (formerly known as black-footed), Spheniscus demersus
Breeding Range: Namibia and South Africa
Length: 68cm.
World Population: 70,000 breeding pairs
Reproduction and caring for the young: There is little distinction between male and female African penguins, although the male is slightly larger and has a longer bill than the female. Penguins are usually about 4 years old when they begin breeding. African penguins will remain with a single partner for many years, producing one or two eggs a year. They only separate normally if breeding has failed for some reason. They can breed at any time of the year. African penguins nest by burrowing into guano (bird droppings) and sand. The incubation period is from 38 to 42 days. Both parents guard the nest and feed the hatchlings regurgitated food. These penguins reach maturity at 3 to 4 years of age.Young penguins have blue-grey backs and white fronts, without the black and white markings of their parents. When the babies hatch, they are already covered in a layer of gray fluffy feathers which provide them with insulation and waterproofing. The parents share the nesting and feeding duties. While one partner stays behind, without food or water, for about two and a half days, the hunting partner will swim as much as ten miles out to sea to find tasty food. The babies are usually fed in the late afternoon. The parents regurgitate partially-digested fish into their mouths. Parents continue to keep close watch on their chicks for about a month and the chicks leave the nest after about two months. This can take much longer, however, if the parents have not been able to supply them with enough food. Going to sea is the most hazardous time of a fledgling's life - only about half the birds that go out for the first time return home. At this stage remain at sea for many months and only return home for their first moult. Young penguins continue to stay out at sea for long periods, sometimes travelling great distances. Only in their 3rd to 4th years do they come back to their homes to mate for the first time.
Feathers: Penguins have shiny, waterproof feathers that help keep their skin dry. They have more feathers than most other birds - about 70 feathers per square inch. Once a year, penguins molt, losing their old feathers and growing new ones. While molting (which takes about 3 weeks), they cannot swim and do not eat.
Diet: African Penguins are carnivores (meat-eaters) who hunt in the sea. They eat fish (including sardines, sancord, and anchovies) and squid.
Circulation: 3 Chamber Heart. Closed Circulation
Respiration: Lungs

CLASS: Mammalia
ORDER: Cetacea
SUBORDER: Odontoceti
FAMILY: Delphinidae
GENUS: Tursiops
SPECIES: truncatus
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This is a relatively robust dolphin with a usually short and stubby beak - hence the name "bottlenose". The bottlenose dolphin (like the beluga) has more flexibility in its neck than other oceanic dolphins, because 5 of the 7 neck vertebrae are not fused together as in the other oceanic dolphins. There are 18-26 pairs of sharp, conical teeth in each side of its jaw.
FINS AND FLUKE: The dorsal fin is high and falcate (curved) and located near the middle of the back. The flukes are broad and curved with a deep median notch. The flippers are of moderate length and pointed.
Length and Weight: Adult length is from 8-12 feet (2.5-3.8 m). These dolphins may weigh as much as 1,430 pounds (650 kg) off Great Britain, though most are much smaller in other parts of the world. Males are significantly larger than females.
Feeding: Feeding behaviors are diverse, primarily involving individual prey capture, but sometimes involving coordinated efforts to catch food, feeding in association with human fishing, and chasing fish into mudbanks. An adult bottlenose dolphin may consume 15-30 pounds (8-15 kg) of food each day. Bottlenose dolphins eat a wide variety of food, including primarily fishes, and sometimes squid, and crustaceans.
Mating and Breedingand taking car of young: Males reach sexual maturity at about 10 years. Females reach sexual maturity at about 5-10 years. The gestation period is 12 months. Calving can take place year-round with peaks in some areas during spring and fall. Calves nurse for over a year (12-18 months), and stay with their mothers for 3-6 years learning how to catch fish and other important tasks. . Calves are born in the water. Deliveries can be either tail-first or head-first. The umbilical cord snaps during or soon after delivery. The calf is approximately 106-132 cm (42 to 52in.) long and weighs about 20kg (44 lb.).In the first few days after birth, the dorsal fin and tail flukes are flaccid and pliable, but gradually become more stiff.Calves are darker than adults and show several vertical, light-colored lines on their sides, a result of fetal folding. These lines disappear within six months.Nursing.Calves nurse under water, close to the surface. Each nursing instance usually lasts only about five to ten seconds. A calf nurses three to eight times per hour throughout the day and night Milk is composed of 33.0% fat, 6.8% protein, and 58.3% water (Oftedal, 1984), with traces of lactose. The rich milk helps the baby rapidly develop a thick insulative layer of blubber A calf may nurse for up to 18 months. A mother dolphin stays close to her calf and attentively directs its movements. The baby swims close to its mother and is carried in the mother's "slip stream", the hydrodynamic wake that develops as the mother swims. This helps the baby to swim and enables the mother and calf to stay up with the group.
Circulation: 3 Chamber Heart. Closed Circulation
Respiration: Lungs, Blow holes.

Feeding
Remarkably, leatherbacks feed on jellyfish and soft-bodied animals that would appear to provide very little nutrition for such huge animals.
The leatherback sea turtle is omnivorous feeding on jellyfish (its primary foodsource), crabs and fish. They are also known to eat sea urchins, squid, crustaceans, tunicates, blue-green algae and seaweed.
Reason for population decline
Ingestion of plastic bags and egg collecting are reasons for mortality and population declines. About 100 to 200 leatherback nests are recorded in Florida each year.
REPRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT: In the United States, nesting occurs from about March to July. Female leatherbacks nest an average of 5 to 7 times within a nesting season, with an observed maximum of 11 nests. The average internesting interval is about 9 to 10 days. The nests are constructed at night in clutches of about 70 to 80 yolked eggs. The white spherical eggs are approximately 2 inches in diameter. Typically incubation takes from 55 to 75 days, and emergence of the hatchlings occurs at night. Most leatherbacks remigrate to their nesting beaches at 2 to 3-year intervals. Leatherbacks are believed to reach sexual maturity in 6 to 10 years.
Like other turtles, sea turtles lay eggs.
2. Females come ashore on a sandy beach to nest a few weeks after mating.
Female sea turtles must come ashore to build nests and lay their eggs.
• Females usually nest during the warmest months of the year. The exception is the leatherback turtle, which nests in fall and winter.
• Females of most species usually come ashore at night, alone, most often during high tide. A female sea turtle crawls above the high tide line and, using her front flippers, digs out a "body pit". Then using her hind flippers, she digs an egg cavity. The depth of the cavity is determined by the length of the stretched hind flipper.
• A female deposits 50 to 200 (depending on the species) Ping Pong ball shaped-eggs into the egg cavity. The eggs are soft-shelled, and are papery to leathery in texture. They do not break when they fall into the egg cavity. The eggs are surrounded by a thick, clear mucus.
Sea turtle eggs are soft-shelled and papery to leathery in texture. A female may deposit as many as 50 to 200 (depending upon species) Ping Pong ball-shaped eggs into the egg cavity that she digs in the sand.
• The female covers the nest with sand using her hind flippers. Burying the eggs serves three purposes: it helps protect the eggs from surface predators; it helps keep the soft, porous shells moist, thus protecting them from drying out; and it helps the eggs maintain proper temperature. Experts can identify the species of turtle by the type of mound left by the nesting female and by her flipper tracks in the sand.
• Females may spend two or more hours out of the water during the entire nesting process.
• It is possible that through the storage of sperm from one or several males in the oviducts of the females, all clutches of the current nesting season may be fertilized without repeated mating.
3. Female Kemp's ridley and olive ridley sea turtles form masses called arribadas (Spanish for "arrival"). Arribadas contain thousands of egg-bearing females that come ashore at the same time to lay eggs.
4. Most females return to the same beach where they hatched to nest each year.
• Recent studies suggest that some females of some species will visit more than one nesting beach (other than the original beach) in a season.
• Females usually lay between one and nine clutches (groups) of eggs per season.
• Females may nest every two or three years.
I am Posting my homework lol It will be easier to get off line here at school soo ica nt print it when i am at school..
-The Ducks in the Central Park Lagoon
Chapter 9
“You know those ducks…….. do you happen to know where the go, the ducks.” (60)
Holden’s curiosity about where the ducks go during the winter reveals a genuine, more youthful side to his character. For most of the book, he sounds like a grumpy old man who is angry at the world, but his search for the ducks represents the curiosity of youth and a joyful willingness to encounter the mysteries of the world. It is a memorable moment, because Holden clearly lacks such willingness in other aspects of his life.
- Phone Booth
Chapter 9
“I went into this phone booth. I felt Like Giving someone a buzz.... I couldn't think of anybody to call up.” (59)
The phone booth is like a box where you can feel your alone in a world that nobody cares. Holden Seems to become even more depressed since he cant not talk to any one and becomes more depressed.. This is important not physical to him but it shows some emotion in him and how he is.
- The Museum Of Natural History-
Chapter 16
" I knew the whole Museum routine Like a book..... there every damn Saturday. Sometimes we looked at animals and sometimes we looked at stuff the Indians made..."
The museum Is a child hood memory, This is something that Holden and his sister shares, He went to the museum every Saturday and know his sister does the same thing with her class. This seems to be a good time for holden, He remember the whole museum like and book. It was a good thing for Holden.
-Holdens Red hunting hat.
Chapter 3
" It was a red hunting hat, With the one of thoes very, very long peaks. I saw it in the window of this sports..... It only cost me a buckI wore it , I swung the peak... I looked good in it, that way."(18)
This was an important thing to Holden this was his happy place, When ever he was in trouble or very depressed he use to put his hat on and think about his problems and that always seem to go away when he use the hat, Like it was and alternate world, or a mask to hide behind.
-Phoebe
Chapter 10
"I damn near gave my kid sister phoebe a buzz, Though i certanly felt like talking to her on the phone. Sombody with sense and all..... You never saw a little kid so pretty and smart in your whole life. She's really smart. I mean she had all A's ever since she started school...... She has this short of red hair, a little bit like Allies was....She's only tenShe's qiuets skinny, like me, but nice skinny. (67)
The Qoute Explains Phoebe. In the qoute her borther holden Explains her in a loving way, not like his out look on life in a negitive way. he explains he in a good way with a little bit of happiness in his words. he seems to be very very very fond of his little sister and very close to her.
-Allie's Baseball Glove
Chapter 5
"God he was a nice kid, tought.he use to laugh so hard and something he tought of at the dinner table....I spelt in the garage the night he died, and I broke all the god damn windows with my fist.....Old allie's basebasllmir. I happen to have it with me."(39)
It represents Holden’s love for his deceased brother as well as Allie’s authentic uniqueness. Allie covered the glove with poems written in green ink so that he would have something to read when things got boring in the baseball field. This mitt is not a catcher’s mitt; it is a fielder’s glove. Holden has shown it to only one person outside the family: Jane Gallagher. When he writes a descriptive theme about the glove for Stradlater to turn in for his English assignment, of course the insensitive roommate does not understand.
-Phonyness in the adult world.
Chapter 16
"so what i did was, I went over and bought two orchestra seats for I Know My Love. It was a benifit performance or something. I dint much want to see it, But i knew old sally, the queen of the phonies, would start drooling all over the place When i told her i had tickets for that, because the Lunts were in it and all." (116)
Holden can not accept those who value materialistic items and labels them "phonies." In all, Holden is hypocritical and it is perhaps this trait that causes him to self-destruct.
-Catcher and the rye
Chapter 16 Chapter 22
“What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff- I mean if they’re running and they don’t look where they’re going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That’s all I’d do all day. I’d just be in the catcher in the rye and all.”
Holden heard this little boy singing that song about a catcher in the rye and then Holden started imagining himself catching all these children falling off this cliff. I think Holden finds this as his purpose in life.
-Achol
through the book
"I certainly ben to feel liked a prize hourses ass, Though sitting there all by my slef. There wasnt anything to do expect Smoke and Drink. What I did do,tought, I told the waiter to ask old Erine if he'd care for a drink."(86)
Alcohol seems to be very important to Holden aswell. He was constantly going into bars trying to gets a drink but sometimes wasnt given any since he's a minor. He did go to this one bar because he wanted to get drunk and he ran into DB's ex-girlfriend. This could be because he finds alcohol as a way to escape the world around him that's filled with phonies and because he wants to be treated as an adult..?
-Caroussel
Chapter 25
“All the kids kept trying to grab for the gold ring, and so was old Phoebe, and I was sort of afraid she'd fall off the goddam horse, but I didn't say anything or do anything. The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it's bad if you say anything to them.” (211)
A gold ring hanging on the outer edge where the children might, with some difficulty, reach out and grab it as they pass by. The child who grabs the ring wins a prize of some sort: perhaps a free ride or a stuffed animal. However, there is some risk in going for the gold ring. The rider might even fall. So the gold ring represents a hope, a dream, and the chances that we must take to grab it. It is a major step for Holden to accept that kids will grab for the gold ring and adults must let them. It is part of life and part of growing up.
-MR. and Mrs. Antioini
Chapter 24
""darling, If hjolden needs anything, Everthing's in the linen closet. The top shelf. I'm going to bed.""(185)
During the trip in new york after he visted phoebe he went to Mrs. and Mr. Antioini house. He seemed to be very welcome as stated in the qoute above, that they didnt mind Holden being there at all. Holden seem to know these people very well and got along with them
-Here Taxi!
Chapter 9
"then i tought of something, all of a sudden. "Hey, Listen, " I said " You knwo thoes ducks in the lagoon, right near Central park and South? that little lake? By any chance, do you happen to know where they go, the ducks, when it gets all frozen over? Do you happen to know, by any chance?" I relized it was only one chance in a million.
He turned around and looked at me like i was a madman "what're tryna do, bud?" He said."kid me?""(60)
This is important to Holden and the book because it shows how lonely and depressing Holden is. Also this shows how Holden Whats to hold on to the little bitt of innocents that he has left. Holden seems to be a very depressed person and is trying to get a little less lonely.
-The Ducks in the Central Park Lagoon
